How to choose the perfect wedding veil

Feeling a bit lost when it comes to choosing your wedding veil?

Planning a wedding can be super stressful. Feeling the pressure of finding the perfect dress and veil to match can be overwhelming, but don’t worry we have you covered! This is a quick and easy reference guide for you to put into words the type of veil you are imaging.

A few things to consider are colour, length, veil style, blushers, the finish and if you wish to have any extras added to the veil.

Colour

Tulles are often ivory or white. Sahara bridal uses ivory tulle, it looks elegant, photographs like a dream and is a flattering colour to wear. White tulle can give off a slight blue tint and we find that most wedding dresses are ivory. All of Sahara bridal ivory tulles are 100% recycled, made from plastic bottles, polyester and yarn off cuts. Sustainable yet not compromising on feeling soft and luxurious.

Length

A shorter veil can be fun & flirty, whilst a longer veil can add drama and elegance. You may have heard the terms; floor length or cathedral. Sahara bridal wants to make finding the perfect length easy! We use our traditional terms and include the length in centimetres, simply measured from the comb to the end of the veil.

Take into account how long your wedding dress is, if you have a train. Lastly, if you want the veil to be shorter, longer or the same length as your dress.

Blusher

Blushers traditionally were believed to ward off bad spirits and signified love beyond beauty. We love a blusher for the romance it can add whilst walking down the aisle and the volume it creates when pulled back into a two tiered veil.

Shape

Choose the shape of the fall of your veil. A traditional curved or circle cut to match the train of your dress. A diamond cut, a flattering angle to draw the eye down or a modern straight edge. The straight edge looks great as a flirty short veil.

Types of Veils.

Mantilla or Spanish style veil that drapes over the head, for example our Aphrodite Veil.

Drop veil is usually created without gathering and features a blusher, for example or San Cristobal Veil.

A single tier veil is a single layer of tulle or material. This can feature gentle gathering (our Georgie Veil) or full gathering (La Flor Veil) for extra volume.

A dual layer or two tier veil is designed with two layers of tulle or fabric, again they can have gentle or full gathering. Our Lissy Veil is an example of this.

Finishers

Veils can be a raw edge - our favourite, especially with our pleated tulles! Or be finished with edging, like crinoline or lace trim.

Appliques

Embellishments like tulle flowers and / or beading can create texture and a delicateness to your veil.

Embroidery

Are you wanting a personal touch? Sahara Bridal offers bespoke embroidery, a significant word, your wedding date or your initials. Carefully hand embroidered onto your veil or tulle bridal gloves as a symbol of the importance of your wedding day.

Remember at the end of the day, a wedding veil is personal. There is no right or wrong, it is about what you feel comfortable and beautiful in!

We hope this was an easy guide for you to start your veil journey! If you have any questions or would like to get in touch regarding a custom made veil, send Sarah an email. We would love to help.
