Bridal Tulle That Is 100% Recycled?

All of our Bridal tulle’s are made via the rPET recycling process. This creates a high quality polyester fibre made from recycled PET bottles, yarns and polyester off cuts.

What is rPET or RePET exactly? This stands for recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (polyester). Virgin polyester is derived from petroleum (not very luxurious if you ask us).

The manufacturer uses recycled clear plastic bottles, polyester yarns and off cuts. These are first thoroughly cleaned and then dried. They are then melted down into tiny flakes. These flakes are the same composition of a flake that would be used to make a virgin polyester yarn. But instead of sourcing new PET from the world's resources they are recycling plastic that is already in circulation.

The flakes are then heated so that they can be spun into a rPET yarn. This high quality yarn is then used to weave our beautiful Bridal tulles.

Despite being made from recycled bottles the rPET fabric is SO soft to touch, durable against colour fading and tearing. Because once it is melted down to basically the same composition as a regular polyester yarn, you would never know that it has been made from recycled products. Getting the luxury feel and look, without adding to the world's plastic, which would take thousands of years to breakdown.

Recycling is not only reducing landfill, it also decreases the need to extract new resources. That's a great prospect for our incredible sea life. The rPET process also uses 35-50% less energy then it would to produce a virgin polyester. Therefore also leaving a smaller carbon footprint.

The rPET tulle is still a form of plastic, so it is not perfect. Here at Sahara Bridal we are trying to be innovative with ways that we can be more sustainable. That is why we are ‘made to order’ to ensure minimal wastage.

The fashion and Bridal industries have a long way to go when it comes to being sustainable. It starts with Brands like Sahara Bridal that use rPET and by conscious Brides choosing a ‘made to order’ option and asking how sustainable their Bridal piece is. By recycling we can conserve natural resources and reduce the burden on our environment. The quality remains the same as a standard polyester yarn. That’s a no brainer for us.
